ClanAkimichi
Eating is not a running gag among the Akimichi. Calorie Control turns their reserves into chakra, and therefore into mass and strength: for them, filling up is arming themselves. A hiden passed down within the clan, definitely not a kekkei genkai. Then come the Multi-Size Technique, the hard-to-steer Human Bullet Tank, and the Three Pills — green, yellow, red — the last of which converts everything and is reputed to be a one-way ticket. Except that the cure exists, and it comes from Nara medicine. Next stop: Butterfly Mode.
A clan whose reserves are its arsenal: for the Akimichi, eating is not a running gag, it is filling up the tank. Here is strength through calories.
Contents
Calorie Control
The whole clan rests on a single hiden: Calorie Control, which freely converts the body's reserves into chakra.
The chain is precise — calories, then chakra, then mass and power. And canon runs the causality in that direction: the clan's techniques devour so much chakra that its members eat in proportion to what they intend to convert. They are powerful because they have reserves.

Multi-Size Technique and Human Bullet Tank
The basic technique makes the user grow, with weight and strength increasing proportionally. One variant enlarges only a single limb.
Next comes the Human Bullet Tank: the enlarged body curls into a ball and propels itself with chakra, powerful enough to pulverize a hand. Its limits are rarely mentioned — it is hard to steer, and it blocks the user's ears.

The Three Colored Pills
The clan's ultimate weapon comes down to three pills, in an order that is never reversed: the green one, the yellow one, then the red one. Rising power, rising danger.
Every one of them forcibly converts the reserves into chakra, and every one of them poisons the body. The red pill converts them all: the user comes out emaciated, and death is said to be imminent. Said to be — Choji, for his part, survived it. They only work on an Akimichi: with no reserves, the pill has nothing to burn.

The Cure Comes from the Nara
Choji takes all three pills against Jirobo of the Sound Four. A detail many get backwards: the trigger is not the mockery about his weight, but the insult aimed at Shikamaru. He swallows the red one for his friend, knowing that it will kill him.
And it is an alliance of clans that saves him. The Nara keep a medicinal encyclopedia documenting the Akimichi pills, and the antlers of their deer go into the cure; Shikaku brings the knowledge, Tsunade operates. The Nara deer heal the Akimichi.

Butterfly Mode
The clan's pinnacle converts calories into chakra so dense that it leaks out through the spine and becomes visible: two great butterfly wings.
Why a butterfly? Because the trio's name comes from hanafuda — boar, deer, butterfly. Each clan inherits its animal. And the pills are not mandatory: they are the crutch of inexperienced members. Mastered Calorie Control lets you set the dose yourself — which is what Choji finally achieves, without swallowing anything, spurred on by his father Choza.

Summary Table
| Aspect | Details |

| Techniques | Multi-Size Technique (size, weight, and strength all proportional); Human Bullet Tank (hard to steer, blocks the ears) |
| The Three Pills | GREEN → YELLOW → RED. The red one converts everything: death said to be imminent. Exclusive to the Akimichi |
| Butterfly Mode | Dense chakra shaped into wings; reachable WITHOUT pills through mastered Calorie Control. "Cho" = the butterfly in hanafuda |
FAQ
-
Why does Choji eat so much? Is it a running gag?No, it is combat logistics, and canon gives the causality in that direction: the clan's techniques consume enormous amounts of chakra, so the Akimichi eat in proportion to the calories they intend to convert. An Akimichi who eats is filling up: his reserves are his arsenal. The clan even wears the kanji for "food" on its clothing.
-
In what order are the Three Pills taken?Always by increasing danger: the green one, then the yellow one, then the red one. Each forcibly converts the reserves into chakra and poisons the body along the way. The red one is the most dangerous: it converts all of the reserves, leaving the user emaciated — after it, death is said to be imminent. They only work on an Akimichi, the only ones who have the necessary fuel.
-
Who really saved Choji after the red pill?An alliance of clans. The key lies with the Nara: their medicinal encyclopedia documents the Akimichi pills in detail, and the antlers of the deer from their forest go into the cure. Shikaku brings that knowledge, and Tsunade uses it to neutralize the poison. In other words: the Nara deer heal the Akimichi.
-
Do you need the red pill for Butterfly Mode?No — and that is Choji's whole arc. The pills are the crutch of inexperienced Akimichi: they force the conversion of every calorie at once. The mastered path runs through Calorie Control, which allows you to set the dose. Choji ends up unfurling his wings without swallowing anything, spurred on by his father Choza.
-
Why butterfly wings?Because the trio's name comes from hanafuda: the Boar, the Deer, and the Butterfly. Each clan inherits its animal — hence the Nara deer, and hence the Akimichi butterfly. The "Cho" in Choji is the one from the card. Butterfly Mode is therefore not an aesthetic choice: it is the clan finally reaching its own card.
In summary
The Akimichi turn what the world takes for a weakness into pure power. And when one of them swallows the red pill, it is never for himself: it is for a friend.
